  16. Chicago. Kutner, once nicknamed "the Springman," wielded the law
  17. like a picklock for prisoners as prominent as pro-Fascist poet
  18. Ezra Pound or as unknown as a black mechanic jailed for a rape
  19. that never was. In 1961 he co-founded the human-rights
  20. organization Amnesty International.
